I realized I was a bitter toxic mother, I'm really working on it. I realized I was really angry and bitter more over towards my little ones, as young as 2! This journey of self awareness has got me working on my silent treatment, anger, bitterness, screaming....Most of the adults in my life were toxic. We can do better. The silent treatment made me lose so many good friends over time.

There is nothing wrong watching a "ladies" show my dear. That's just a stereotype of thinking men can't do what women do. If anything this channel 's topics are result of two parties( meaning women & men) e.g pregnancy, sex, childbirth, parenting etc.None of these are done without the involvement of a man. What your mindset should embrace is hearing the experience of a woman in an activity you are involved in when watching this show. Where a mindset shift is needed you embrace it, where you disagree you offer your objective opinion. Otherwise most women not just the ones on this show we are very intelligent in a broad no. of fields. We aren't less of anything of anything because of our gender. I bet you listen to ladies in your work space too. Otherwise welcome aboard.

I kind of grew up from a toxic home, most times i would be home i would go to my room amd cry and wonder why i was born in such a home, much as i had access to basic needs i was never excited about going home for holidays to the extent that i would opt to study in holidays and keep at school. The moment i joined campus i would look for volunteering placements to keep me busy and surely i wouldnt go home. I would go home for a few days to check on them and after my graduation i didnt go back home, i still went for voluntary work, God blessed me with a job a husband and now i have a family of my own, i distanced myself from my family not that i didnt love them, i love them and when money started coming i supported them all through, i visited them but i needed that space to build my empire that is free from all that home drama. Such environments can would your heart and u find yourself being hard on other people in future. I have a very, very, very, very toxic mother. Not to just me, but to any family member. One thing I know is that having a toxic mother is a lonely journey, so traumatizing yet you can't have anyone to tell and be on your side because, ideally to society, a mother does no wrong. A toxic mother can kill you faster than any other illness. I self-distanced about 8 years ago, and I have never regretted it. My life is so much better, mentally. No contact! and over time, I have earned so much respect from her, from a distance.

Rosette my deepest condolences. May your mum's soul rest in peace.
Oh Lord, a deep conversation. Thank you for sharing ladies, I can see all the toxicity to date.
My own mum was not toxic or controlling but I really had to parent her at some point because she was pitiful, and sad and had to deal with that toxicity from her family.
Pumla, I can relate to the ridicule from relatives. I saw extended family do the same to us but I think on my dad's side he defended us. He would say, they will learn, teach them or even that is why I pay tuition, they are not allowed other languages except English at school. But when do these things stop? Because we are old and some relatives still behave poorly, I can not take it folding arms, I have to stand up for myself and whoever else is in that sad situation. I used to be temperamental, angry, violent even fight physically because I thought I was self-defending. I have come a long way. I am assertive but have learned to keep my cool. I know which battles to fight. I really have learnt to walk away and speak kindly even as I confront a situation. I am empathetic and patient now. Therapy helps, let us get help. I am actively getting help and prayer has been working good for me for the last 7 years.

Hahaha, this episode reminded me about a certain auntie who frequented home for parties while we were still kids. Growing up, my favorite chore was cooking, but for some reason, I just wasn't passionate about cooking matooke. I even didn't like eating it anyway hence my lack of motivation to participate in its preparation! So this particular woman always said things like "' Who will marry you when you can't cook matooke'','' You are too lazy and you will never succeed''. All this culminated from the fact that I didn't like cooking matooke! Please note, I was great at all the other dishes. These statements went on for some years (through my teenage years up until campus) and then I decided to clap back. I reminded her how perfect her matooke cooking skills were and how they hadn't been sufficient to keep her marriage together. I reminded her how she isn't God and has no audacity to speak such words into my life. I went ahead to elucidate that God and not matooke keep marriages. Nways, I went on and on, while some other aunties watched and were dumbfounded🤣 Ladies and gentlemen, that was the last time she ever said anything to me. When we meet, we exchange our greetings and move on. Sometimes toxic relatives need to be schooled while establishing clear boundaries. Thanks for another great show ladies 💜

Hello Bump love, this was happening to me as I was looking for validation from my mum. I feel your pain dear. However, a friend advised me to break my emotional need for mum, air out my feelings and grounds, and rebel respectfully, if it doesn't work for me I stay away, she calls me yelling on my phone I switch it off. Then the change came. we learned to listen to each other she learnt she doesn't have to yell and say those hurtful words Oh God. Break that validation need from her and find peace with yourself. You can validate yourself and that enough should be enough. they eventually learn coz trust me she doesn't want to lose you as well. And she loves you just sometimes she is dealing with emotions she cant explain to you as a you are her child.

It's funny, the journey of healing from toxic family members doesn't end. It's just recently that I decided to move on with my life without looking for an applause from family.
Having gone through a childhood of rejection, getting acceptance in my adulthood from my parents came at a cost of doing whatever I was told do, I depended on what they termed as success, progress and what I had to do with my life. It was sad. When my relationship was on the line, I woke up and looked to God.
I gave myself space from my family, I love them but when it comes to what I am doing with my life, I will tell them what I can, and not looking for approval this time.
It's key that you get to appreciate you have grown up and need to look out for a your own peace of mind. 😊

I have a toxic mum and the sad news is that they never change! You keep trying to please them with hopes to make them love you appropriately but no. They just take and take. Whats helped me is acceptance of who she is and that I cant change an adult. Thankfully my Dad is really God sent, and all of us kids can always rely on his unconditional love.
I now have a somewhat codial relationship with my mum and its bc I set boundaries and I absolutely have no expectations when it comes to her.

Their sense of entitlement when we grew up anx started working drove me nuts. I can count the extended family i have a relationship with on my fingertips and i am happy.

For the part of not knowing your local language, I have also had some occasions with my cousins because I don't speak my Dad's language. Someone knows very well that you don't understand but has a whole conversation with you in the language and still says, "you mean you don't understand the language, big as you are" yet you never grew up from there hence the missing out on learning the language.

Most people just want to show the winning flashy side, otherwise they keep quiet not unless they are older like our aunties. Kudos for that. Do you have any video on finances sharing in marriage, like when you make money, do you share with household buys and what works for each of you. 8s there a video to that regard we Learn. I feel career women put in something but they always saying hubby gives everything and I keep wondering what happens with their money?

Thank you anon for bringing this topic up. I have learned a number of points here. Remove yourself from the situation or distance yourself from such a relationship and get counselling is what i have learned from this episode. I became so quite and it has affected my communication skills. Now am independent and i have set the boundary: i wont allow any of the toxicity affect me..
Eeeh i can relate to anons story and what is being discusses on the episode they are never wrong, never remorseful when they do wrong. They can never apologise. They are always right
